HOME / Amazon Birding

Practical Information

You can use Birds Hotel Molino as a starting point for two Amazon birding options: to the nearby Inkatambo, and a longer one to Manu National Reserve.

Species endemic to Peru are marked in green.

Option 1. Short and Sweet: Inkatambo

If you're short on time, we recommend a trip to Inkatambo which is located about a two-hour drive from Birds Hotel Molino.

Birds Hotel Molino - Inkatambo Itinerary

  1. Our journey begins at Birds Hotel Molino.
  2. After driving for half an hour, we cross the Abra Malaga pass, located 4,300 meters above sea level, which separates the Sierra from the Amazon. The pass offers stunning views of the Veronica Glacier, and is home to unique birds found at this altitude such as the White-tufted Sunbeam and the Urubamba Antpitta.
  3. After crossing Abra Malaga, we begin our descent into the jungle, making two stops: Tunkiwasi Lodge and Inkatambo Garden. Both are easily accessible with abundant opportunities to see species such as Cock-of-the-Rocks, Gould's Inca and Versicolored Barbet.
  4. Ideally, budget two days and one night for optimal birding experience.

Option 2. Longer Journey: Manu Natural Reserve

This option will be interesting for those seeking a more in-depth experience and exposure to a wider range of tropical birds. The journey requires at least three days and two nights. Ask us about the local guides, lodging options and other logistics.
