HOME / Garden Birding

Practical Information

Designed by the hotel’s owner, a bird photographer, our garden has been optimised for birdwatching and bird photography.

Garden Design Enhancement to Optimise Your Birding Experience

  1. In Birds Hotel Molino Garden there are several spots to observe and photography birds:  balconies, shaded areas under trees anda custom-made hide. These different vantage points give you the opportunity to photograph birds from various angles and lighting.
  2. We use bird feeders and flowers to attract a variety of species. Because the garden is located in a secluded area and very close to the Abra Malaga pass, we are lucky to welcome such species as Great Sapphirewing or Gould's Inca.
  3. We experiment with the sizing and placement of perches to improve your chances of getting a good shot.

Best Time for Birdwatching

  1. The best times for photography in the garden are in the early morning until midday, and afternoon, though the exact times can vary depending on the season (wet vs. dry) and the weather on any given day.
  2. To see some of the species, mainly the Bearded Mountaineer, Taczanowski's Tinamou, Burrowing Owl and Short-Eared owl, you can take a short ride to nearby spots in the Sacred Valley.
  3. If you're staying with us for more than one day, we can suggest an itinerary that combines birding in the garden with high-altitude and aquatic birding.
